Our Story

Why Smooth Aurora Travels

A small Kiruna operator, founded by Deaf entrepreneurs, built so that every guest - any age, any language - understands and enjoys every part of the week.

Accessibility is not an add-on here. It is how Smooth Aurora Travels is built.

Smooth Aurora Travels was founded in Kiruna in 2022 by Deaf entrepreneurs, and that experience is exactly why accessibility is built into everything we do. Across five seasons we have hosted more than 100 guests from 15 countries.

What that means for you: our tours are designed to work for all ages and for guests from many different language backgrounds. Every guest receives written information about each activity in advance, in their own language, so nobody has to rely on fluent English to understand what is happening, what to wear or what to expect.

Families and children are welcome, and every activity is family friendly. On the ground, local hosts and guides from Smooth Aurora Travels are with you throughout - people who know this landscape intimately: the ice, the weather, the reindeer paths and the best quiet spot to wait for the sky to move.

Aurora sightings so far

100% aurora sightings so far. We cannot promise the sky, but we are northern lights specialists who live here, we track the forecast every night of your stay and we go where the sky is clearest.

What we stand for

Four values that shape every itinerary

Local expertise

We live where you're travelling to. Every guide, driver and host on our roster is chosen because we'd send our own family to them.

Small groups

We keep our weeks intimate by design - enough to feel communal, small enough that nobody is a number.

Thoughtful logistics

Transfers, timing, layers, backups for weather. The unglamorous planning that makes a trip feel effortless.

Accessible by design

Written information in your own language before every activity, hosts briefed on clear communication, and a week that works for all ages.

A guest in his own words

“My experience with Smooth Aurora Travels is difficult to put into words because it was such a unique and emotional experience. I got to witness the Northern Lights, experience the thrill of the extreme Arctic cold, go dog sledding, discover Swedish and Sámi culture, explore the city of Kiruna, and enjoy some amazing local food.

Smooth Aurora Travels' goal is to create incredible and unique adventure packages where every guest leaves with unforgettable memories and a truly positive experience. An extra special touch was having Deaf guides as part of the experience.

Don't miss the chance to experience Kiruna with Smooth Aurora Travels!
