The Feel Good Week
Your complete Kiruna winter escape - 4-star hotel accommodation, airport transfers, Arctic activities and a local host, all arranged in one seamless itinerary.

Five days, carefully paced

Arrival, Sámi culture and the first chase
We meet you at Kiruna Airport, drive you in and check you into your hotel. From there we head to Márkanbáiki to meet the reindeer and spend time with a Sámi family - food by the fire, and the working side of reindeer herding rather than a show. Back at the hotel your host runs the aurora briefing: how we read the forecast, what to wear, how the nights work. Then you are straight out on the first chase, the same evening you land.

Dog sledding, spa and the second night out
A morning behind your own team of huskies on frozen forest trails, with time at the kennels afterwards. In the afternoon, your included spa session at your own hotel - Aurora Spa at Camp Ripan or Vana Spa at Elite Hotel Frost - so the cold comes out of your hands before dark. Then out again once the sky is black, this time with a night of practice behind you.

Snowmobile, ice fishing, open-fire lunch and aurora chase
The big day out: your own snowmobile across frozen lake and open fell, holes drilled through the ice to fish, and a hot lunch cooked over an open fire. Roughly four to five hours door to door. You are back with time to warm up and eat before the guides check the forecast again and take you out for the third night.

ICEHOTEL, optional add-ons and the last chase
A guided visit to the ICEHOTEL and the year-round ICEHOTEL 365 in Jukkasjärvi - art suites, ice sculptures and the ice bar, while you keep sleeping in a warm 4-star hotel. The rest of the day is deliberately open, so any optional add-ons you have booked sit here. After dark comes the fourth and last chase of the week: four separate nights under the sky is what makes the odds what they are, and it is why we never have to gamble the whole trip on one clear evening.

Checkout and souvenirs
Breakfast, then checkout. There is time in Kiruna afterwards for souvenirs and a last look at the town - Sámi handicraft, local design, or something for the people at home. When you are ready, your included transfer takes you back to Kiruna Airport in time for your flight.

Frequently asked
What fitness level do I need?+
No special fitness is required. Dog sledding and snowmobiling involve standing and balance for short periods, and there's some walking in snow. Most guests of any age and activity level manage the week comfortably.
What should I pack?+
Warm base layers, wool socks and a good pair of indoor shoes. We provide the full outer winter clothing set - overalls, boots, gloves and a hat - so you don't need to buy Arctic-grade gear.
Is the aurora guaranteed?+
We cannot promise the sky, and nobody honestly can. What we can tell you is that we are northern lights specialists who live here: we track the forecast and the cloud cover every single night of your stay and we go where the sky is clearest, so you have the best possible chance of seeing this magical natural phenomenon. So far, 100% of our departures have seen the lights.
What exactly is included in the transfers?+
Everything on the ground. Every transfer is driven by an experienced winter driver in a minibus or van on studded winter tyres - the airport both ways, and to and from every single activity during your stay. You never arrange or pay for local transport.
What happens after I book?+
You receive an email with a short form covering your winter clothing sizes plus any allergies and medical conditions. That way your gear is ready and waiting on arrival, and every activity is adapted to you.
When is your season?+
We run December to March only. These are the months with the darkest nights, reliable snow and the strongest aurora season in Kiruna.
Can you accommodate dietary needs?+
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary requirements are handled routinely - just let us know when you book and we'll confirm with each venue in advance.
Is this suitable for solo travellers?+
Very much so. Groups are kept small and mixed, and solo travellers are a significant share of our guests. Single-occupancy accommodation is available on request.
Can we bring children?+
Families are welcome from around age 6 upward, though some activities like snowmobiling have age or height minimums for safety. Tell us your children's ages when booking and we'll advise or adjust the itinerary.
How does payment and cancellation work?+
A booking and arrangement fee of 20 percent of the total price is paid when your booking is confirmed in writing, and it is non-refundable. The remaining 80 percent is due 60 days before departure. Of that 80 percent, cancellations more than 60 days before departure are refunded in full, cancellations 59 to 30 days before are refunded at 50 percent, and cancellations less than 30 days before are non-refundable. We recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation.
Read the full terms and conditionsDo you offer Deaf-friendly hosting or other accessibility support?+
Yes. We work with Deaf-friendly hosts and can arrange written briefings, sign language interpretation on request, and adapted transport for mobility needs - tell us your requirements and we'll confirm what's possible ahead of time.
What is not included in the price?+
Flights or train travel to and from Kiruna, which you book yourself. Lunches and dinners, apart from the meals that are part of the activities - the open-fire lunch on the snowmobile and ice fishing day and the Swedish fika during dog sledding. Breakfast is included every morning. Personal travel insurance is not included either, and every guest needs their own cover for winter activities.
Is my money protected?+
Yes. Smooth Aurora Travels is a package travel organiser and holds the statutory Swedish travel guarantee with Kammarkollegiet, so the money you pay in advance is protected if a trip is cancelled or cut short, including your journey home.
