How it works

Three steps to the Arctic

01

Choose your dates

Our season runs December to March and every departure is Wednesday to Sunday, four nights - a long weekend that is easy to take off work. Pick the week that suits you, when Kiruna's nights are darkest and the aurora season is at its strongest.

02

We arrange everything

4-star hotel with a generous breakfast buffet every morning and a two-course dinner every evening, all transfers, winter clothing and every activity are booked and sequenced by your local host before you land. Every transfer is driven by an experienced winter driver in a minibus or van on studded winter tyres - airport both ways, and to and from every single activity. You never arrange or pay for local transport such as bus or taxi.

03

You just fly

Land in Kiruna and step into a week that's already planned - no logistics, no second-guessing, just the Arctic. There is a particular relief in handing it all over at the airport door: the phone goes in your pocket, someone who lives here takes the wheel, and for five days the only thing asked of you is to look up.

The Experiences

Five days. Every experience. One booking.

Every experience below, plus where you sleep and everything you eat, is included in The Feel Good Week - nothing to book, nothing to add.

The difference

On a SEK 25 900 departure you save around SEK 6 000, about EUR 540, per person - and all the planning.

Separate prices are illustrative estimates based on indicative market rates.

What the price does not show

The curation is the product

We have tested a lot of operators up here over the years and kept the ones that hold up. They are chosen against our own standards, not on price, and that selection is the part you are actually buying. Anyone can book a dog sled. Knowing which one to book, and who to call when the weather turns, is the difference.

The SEK 31 900 above is a conservative figure. Doing this yourself without a local network and without booking well ahead usually means the more expensive version of each activity, arrangements made at the last minute, and paying for the things nobody saw coming. In practice the real cost is higher than the comparison suggests.

Planned tightly, on purpose

Our schedules are planned tightly enough to leave room for spontaneity. That sounds like a contradiction and it is not: because the fixed points are already handled, there is space to change plans when the sky, or the group, calls for it.

We evaluate every group

We have done it since we started, on the assumption that everything can be improved. Five seasons in, we know how people actually behave on a week like this and what they respond to. Our youngest guest was four, our oldest was around seventy.

In our own post-trip evaluation, which we run with every guest, the average overall score is 9.5 out of 10. That is our internal survey, not a public review score.

From Our Guests

“My experience with Smooth Aurora Travels is difficult to put into words because it was such a unique and emotional experience. I got to witness the Northern Lights, experience the thrill of the extreme Arctic cold, go dog sledding, discover Swedish and Sámi culture, explore the city of Kiruna, and enjoy some amazing local food.”
